Whatever Happened to Erik Estrada? He's STILL ALIVE and is NOW a REAL-LIFE, FULL-TIME DEPUTY SHERIFF >>>
While his career started out in typical fashion with small parts in movies such as Airport '75 and Midway, Erik Estrada then landed the role of a lifetime in 1977. As Frank “Ponch” Poncharello in the hit TV police drama, ChiPs, he became one of the most recognizable faces on prime time TV in the lat '70s and early '80s.
Afterward, in the late 1980s, his career languished and he made a string of low budget films. The 1990s, however, saw a resurgence as Mr. Estrada starred in the most popular, Spanish language telenovela of the time, Dos Mujeres, Un camino. Following this success, Mr. Estrada returned to U.S. Television but in a greatly diminished capacity as he appeared on numerous game and reality shows as well as many popular music videos.
These days, Mr. Estrada uses his popularity for a range of worthwhile charities and activities. He is an active advocate for the United Way, the American Heart Association and D.A.R.E. as well as numerous less well-known but quite deserving charities. In a case of life imitating art, Mr. Estrada has also become a full-time peace officer and currently serves in Virginia. He hasn't given up acting though. His latest film as the Syfy Channel's Chupacabra vs The Alamo.
