Trans fat and saturated fats falls in the unhealthy fat group and should be avoided. These increases the level of bad cholesterol in the body and in turn leads to narrowing of the artery and heart attack.

Trans fats are not essential and provide no known benefits to the human body, except they causes heart disease and in turn heart attack and they are found in: • Fried and packaged food items, such as cake mixes, French fries, pizza, burger, potato chips, cookies, crackers, etc. • Fast food restaurant foods • Margarine and other non-butter spreads • Readymade soup cups. • Fast food. • Frozen foods. • Commercially available baked products. • Chocolate bar • Flavored coffee, non-dairy toppings, salad dressings, whipped toppings.

Although saturated fat increases the product’s shelf life, they are very harmful for the body and worse for a patient having suffered heart attack, so avoided when on the cardiac diet. These fats are found in foods items like: • Red meat • Ice cream • Palm oil • Cocoa butter • Ghee • cream • cheese
