Who is the best violinist? Well anymore, it comes down to taste. These aren't necessarily in order. I can't choose a favorite.

  1. Itzhak Perlman

Perlman is an Israeli violinist who suffered from polio that left him crippled. He didn't let that stop him from becoming one of the best violinists. Today, he has a violin school and is helping battle polio.

Here's a good sample of him playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyQwD9KZvhc

  1. Gil Shaham

Another Israeli violinist. His technique could not be improved upon.

  1. James Ehnes

Not being the most popular doesn't mean he isn't good. James Ehnes is an excellent violinist from Canada. Any songs he plays have a high wow-factor. His technique and interpretation are also incredible. He is the boss of Wieniawski.

  1. Salvatore Accardo

Salvatore Accardo is not only a music conductor, but an excellent violinist. He's one of those old men that can leave everybody else in the dust wondering what happened.

  1. Jascha Heifetz

Jascha Heifetz was considered the best violinist in his time. Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21dsRBeIy8A&feature=related
