There are so many benefits to laughter. A good laugh makes you feel better. No, really, it can help you alleviate stress, sadness, depression, and even physical ailments.
When we laugh, our body releases endorphins that help fight negative stress hormones. These stress hormones can wreak havoc on our mental and physical health.
When you feel depressed, stressed, or physically ill, watch a funny movie or TV show (my favorites are I LOVE LUCY and THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW), or call your best friend who never fails to make you laugh and feel better.
Laugh when you don't feel like it. Just the act of laughing can release those "feel good" chemicals. So, even if you have to force a laugh, do it. Now, if other are around or your pets are looking on, they may think you are crazy, but big deal!! Anything to make you feel better.
Laughing can help you physically too. It is like a low impact exercise. It makes your stomach muscles work and it sends oxygen to much needed areas of the body. There is even a technique called Laughter Yoga. Seriously, there are classes you can attend based on yoga and laughter.
Whatever you do, don't wallow in your problems. Easier said than done, but put on a good laugh to help carry you through to feeling better.
