Even though I enjoy cooking from scratch, there are times when that just is not feasible. On a weekday, I get up at 5:30 a..m. and one by one each of my family members leaves the house at different times (and each day has its own schedule), until around 8:00 a.m.when I leave, usually to run an errand or two before I head to work. Having prepared foods like frozen waffles in various flavors helps to move our mornings along.

Often, like this morning, I do not even get a chance to make myself anything to eat, because in a last minute change of plans, I had to drive my daughter to school. When I stopped at the store and saw the new microwavable Eggo Maple Flavored Waffle Bites in the freezer, I thought they might be good for me at work since we do have a microwave, but no toaster or oven to cook with.

The box contains four pouches and there are two pieces in each pouch. Each piece has four 2" diameter circles (or tiny waffles), which means that I can break one off and easily pop it into my mouth while I am working. To cook these, open one end of the pouch, place it on a microwave safe plate and heat on high for 25 seconds, or in the alternative, they can be heated in a toaster oven.

These waffles definitely have a maple flavor to them, but they are not overly sweet and I did like the flavor My only issue is that there is no crisping tray, and since you are microwaving a bread product in a plastic pouch, the end result is on the soggy side. I like food such as waffles to be extra crispy, so that is a big drawback for me.

A serving (one pouch) contains 180 calories, 5 grams of fat, 10 milligrams of cholesterol, 230 milligrams of sodium, 50 milligrams of potassium, 4 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbohydrates including less than 1 gram of protein and grams of sugar. There is a minimal amount of your daily serving of various vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin A, Calcium, Iron, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12 and Phosphorous. This product contains egg, soy and milk ingredients and is Kosher-Dairy.

The idea behind these Waffle Bites is a good one in that children can eat them on the go and have the flavor of maple syrup in their waffles without the sticky mess. Depending on their age, children can also heat these themselves in the microwave rather than using the toaster oven.

These waffle bites were the same price as the other Eggo waffles in my store, but most of those boxes contain ten waffles, while this one contains eight, making them more expensive. Since I was not thrilled with their taste from the microwave, and will probably be taking the box home to toast the rest in my toaster oven, paying extra for individual packets of these Eggo Maple Flavored Waffle Bites is not feasible for me.
