Recently I completed one month of the hCG Diet. That was, by far, one of the very worst mistakes I have ever made. I suffered with so many side effects and have gone through months of medical appointments to get healthy again.

To be fair, I didn't really take hCG. I took Omni Drops. I have heard there is really no hCG in the drops. I paid good money for a little placebo-filled bottle of water. The FDA confirmed that it would be illegal for them to have hCG in their product but that it was equally illegal to market it the way they do.

Since I've shared my story and recovery online, I am hearing from more and more people who also had terrible side effects from the diet or know somebody who did. Yesterday somebody shared with me the trial of Brett Seacat who is accused of murdering his wife. I was in no way familiar with this case but my interest was piqued when I heard that the hCG Diet was a big part of this trial.

The defense believes that Vashti Seacat actually was depressed and that the hCG Diet may have played a role in that depression.

Now, let me just say, I know almost nothing about his case so I won't comment on whether I believe her husband killed her or not but I will comment on whether the hCG Diet can cause depression.

My answer in yes! Absolutely yes! You can find post after post after post online of women mentioning depression or symptoms of depression while on this diet. And, you don't even need real hCG to suffer from depression. It's the accompanying 500-calorie diet that will do it.

As you can see, depression is a noted side effect of crash diets and nothing quite screams crash diet like the hCG diet even when there is no real hCG involved. The hCG Diet is a gateway to so many serious health problems. Could suicide end up being one of them? I don't see why not. When you are surviving on only 500-calories a day, why wouldn't paranoia and suicide be an risk?

Did Brett Seacat murder his wife? I don't know but I do know that if she was depressed, yes, absolutely,a 500-calorie diet may well have been an important reason why.
