Growing up in Oklahoma, I've always been aware of the fact I am an Okie. I was never so aware of being an Okie until I went to college. I attended Smith College, in Massachusetts. The all-girls school is just one step under “Ivy League.” I've been known to tell people that Jackie Kennedy's daddy's money couldn't get her in and she had to go Vassar, but my grades got me in to the elite school.
