YG Entertainment, who hasn't debuted a new boy group since Big Bang in 2006, plans on debuting a new boy group whom will be chosen by the public through a survival program “WIN: Who Is Next?” ( www.soompi.com/2013/08/16/yg-entertainments-survival-program-win-who-is-next-to-premiere-august-23/ ). As if the title of the show wasn't bad enough, the group who wins will debut under the name “Winner.” That will probably be the worst group name in kpop history. I would like to know who comes up with some of these names. Even I could come up with better! Maybe they could make the group name N.E.R. or WIN:N.E.R. So it would be like “Who Is Next?” and the answer is N.E.R. They can find out what N.E.R stands for on their own or ask the public to submit ideas.
Big Bang is actually a really good name, so just Winner would be quite a let-down from YG. I hope that YG will decide to change the name because if I happen to like the future Winner, I will not exactly want to tell people I like Winner or wear a shirt with “Winner” printed on it. It's a little lame. Although, I do think it would be kind of funny if they debuted the losing group as “Loser” at the same time. I would rather like the Loser group. Or they could go with Chicken Dinner. (Yes that one is cringe-worthy too.)
If you're unsure of whether or not you'll watch the show, maybe knowing that G-Dragon and Taeyang from Big Bang will participate in the show by providing constructive criticism, input, and advice to their hoobaes (juniors). Although I dislike the name and risk getting upset if the group I like doesn't win, I plan on watching the show. I feel like Team A has the upper hand because member Kang Seung Yoon recently made his solo debut. I disliked the song so much that I couldn't finish listening to it (just not my style), so I'll probably be rooting for Team B.
Another reason I think Team A has the upper hand is because a dance practice video of them was released ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lXXGJvz0jY ), which was really good, but none for Team B. How is that fair? If you're going to show a dance practice video, then please let us see both teams dancing.
The first episode of WIN: Who Is Next airs on August 23, 2013.
