Things to see and do in Alton, Illinois? That was the question I am setting out to answer while we are visiting there. There is a lot of history in the town. There are numerous stops, 9 sites to be exact, along Underground Railroad, that helped to shelter slaves as they sought freedom in the northern part of the Unites States. There are said to be many tunnels under the city as well as caves and other safe places that the fleeing slaves would stay in. My daughter is only 5, but I would still like to spend a few hours looking at these sanctuaries of history.
