Artie Lange announced on Facebook today that he had gotten engaged to his longtime girlfriend Adrienne. He wrote, "That's right my quitters I am officially engaged to my long suffering girlfriend Adrienne No date yet but I'm so happy. Good to b alive 143."
Artie is a comedian and was the longtime sidekick on The Howard Stern Show. He was given a leave of absence at the end of 2009, so he could deal with his substance abuse problems. Artie has battled an addition to heroin for years and often talked about it on the air. On January 2, 2010, Artie tried to kill himself by stabbing himself in the stomach repeatedly with a knife. He was in a psychiatric hospital for a while and has never returned to The Howard Stern Show. Artie now has his own radio show that is also on DirectTV. Adrienne and Artie have been together off-and-on since 2009. They were in the news a year ago after having a public fight in Paris that led to Artie being arrested. They broke up but later reconciled. Artie also has a new book coming out this year that will talk about his end with the Stern Show and the suicide attempt. It's called "Crash and Burn."
I sincerely hope that marriage brings peace and happiness to Artie Lange. He is an incredibly talented man and the best years of the Stern Show were when Artie was there.
