I used to be very organized and cleaned up regularly. But, now it's very hard to do that

I live in organised mess! I do try...but teenage kids? Say no ,more!

ah I miss a garage, workspace for art and all . . . but townhouses normally have shared and we do not even have that. I envy your property allowances for having a garage or house with attached one or not . . . &jimporsche86

I used to be a really bad clean freak. The job I did and still do required the area to be clean. Over the years I've collected more then I should probably. I am working on cleaning all that up and get my garage workspace back.

I am one of those people that adore order but create chaos. I try so so hard to be tidy.

I'm a very tidy person, it really bugs me if things are not where they should be :)

I have OCD and am extremely organized but have learned to not stress about it!

I am a cluttered mess. No matter how I clean, clear out and organize my house is like the sand on the beach: as soon as I have an area cleared it fills up with something else.

Depending on what my living situation is at the time a d how busy I am.

I work to be well organized, however notorious clutter spots do occur and then need to be cleaned up. :)It's a work in progress.

I personally hate clutter and am generally well-organized. However, we do not live in isolation and have to tolerate the whims and fancies of those in the family.

I'm glad you bring this topic up on an open platform. A good eye-opener and reminder for us all.

Im a little bit cluttered usually, lots of stuff but I do like it organised!

Excellent food for thought. I prefer neat and tidy but most of my life has been surrounded by lots of other people and I just can't keep up with the clutter anymore. In reality my entire life is a bit on the disorganized side right now and I can't seem to figure out how to change it. Baby steps I suppose. Enjoyed your piece!

You get what you pay for and you also give what you dish on out is my motto when it comes to organization. For example if you own a business and care to keep nothing in it at all that will clutter the store front, or archives you may need for storage keeping. Simply don't purchase anything :) The other way to keep things clean is to do something each day to clear up what ever you moved into place that appears to be clutter. It's my technique. Hope it works for others out there. Nice post! liked!!

I'm neat by nature, and I find it's a lot more effortless for me to be neat than it seems to be for a lot of other people. I don't live in a situation where I can have things as neat and organized as I'd like them, but I do understand that being neat and organized is a bigger effort for some people than others. As far as some surfaces (like a dining-room table) go, my thing has always been pretty much "table-cloth and flowers in the middle of it, and maybe a cell phone; but that may be the mother/family-person coming out; because my reasoning (besides it just looking good) is that a table should be ready for anyone who comes along and wants to use it (for one thing or another); but then they should get their stuff off for "the next person". These days, though, it's not so much that someone may want to use my table. It's just that I have one person or another who comes in for, say, coffee or lunch; and I want it to be relaxing and nice for anyone who does.

I am most definitely a clutter person! It has always been my way!

That is the sort of thing that accumulates. We both have desks, so it all ends up there. I'm a bit of a clutter bug but try to control it for the sake of my tidy spouse's sanity.

Thank-you for this post, I like to be organized, but fight my clutter self to be it

I am not as organized and neat as I used to be. You just gave me an idea for a post. Thank you.

I try to be neat and organized but my apartment is just way too small for that to be truly feasible (with 4 people here). Kids are messy! Lol.

I have always been organized to a fault whether it be household, paperwork, clothing and even my books, CDs and DVDs; all neatly grouped and organized. The plus is it made me an excellent document control officer (in construction management) for nearly 20 years. But now, disabled & suffering medium to extreme pain on a daily basis, causes my personal organization to suffer and drive me nuts. Weeks when the pain is exceptionally bad or longstanding, I let regular housework go and projects get stopped in progress. For instance; got a new printer stand last week because the old one was getting too loose and wobbly. Well right now, both stands are still in my livingroom, one right in the center of the room, hampering wheelchair mobility. And both stands have stuff on them and the printer is still not hooked up to the new pc and let's not talk about the kitchen table, temporary placement for everything. All I need is TWO good days in a row. Today's clutter is a long ways from my sock drawer being organized by color & usage or all long sleeves shirt on BLACK hangers and short-sleeve shirts on WHITE. Today's clutter kills me, probably could use a wife. (C'mon, some slack - that's a tongue-in-cheek statement). I am a freak, but the author of this article already knows that! :+)

I am nearer the cluttered side of the spectrum and don't mind it a bit, and yes, I blame it on my creative and reclusive tendencies, and don't mind that a bit either.

Flag this comment as inappropriate

Mostly, I'm organized, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm uncluttered!

Flag this comment as inappropriate

I tend to go in between both...some days I am neat..other days I am cluttery...it seems to be dependent on my state of mind and level of creativity at the time :)

I like clean, but when I lose control like I'm too busy for something and my plans don't go well, I clutter a lot. I noticed that when I have clutter, I am tense or nervous. When I have time to relax, I clean my clutter and I'm back to normal clean and peaceful living again. As of this writing, my paper works and electronic projects are just beside me, disarranged. :)

I'm like &AliceJoy I struggle hard to be neat, but somehow that never quite happens.

I can be a bit messy but I blame it on my creative genius /jk :)

I am in a life long struggle to be organized. It takes great energy for me to maintain the organization I need for optimum performance in this complex , modern life.

I'm a Type-A personality. So, I'm neat. I'm not as neat as I used to be since I've gotten so busy, but I can't stand a lot of mess around me. I have a place for everything and if something is moved out of its place, I can't stand that.

I 'm kind of Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hide (Hyde). When I'm single and especially if I live alone, I am not neat at all. I literally hode stuff if company is coming over. However in a living together relationship, I give it everything I've got to be relatively neat and try to really be proactive in that way. Sometimes less than perfectly but I truly try.

I am both, depending on the room. My kitchen, family room, back patio garden, bedroom and bathrooms are usually clean and organized. However, my office, garage, and basement are cluttered most of the time!

Flag this comment as inappropriate

I am pretty much a neat freak, almost obsessively so , I can tell you where everything in my room is off the top of my head, right now I can tell you that my pen is in the left hand corner of my desk drawer :)

Flag this comment as inappropriate

Clutter is a bit of a riddle for me sometimes, it seems to appear everywhere and yet seemingly nowhere at once. But I can tolerate it more than a dusty home. Stacks of papers bother me relatively less than a pile of dirty dishes. My husband on the other-hand is capable of leaving the dishes for an entire week or more, but the stack of papers will get on his nerves. :)

I tend to be organized and when there is clutter I feel very stressed out. Right now my desk is a little cluttered because we got a lot of mail today and I was busy this afternoon and haven't had a chance to process it all yet but it will be straight and tidy before I go to bed!

I used to be messy, and always longed to have a neat and tidy house like some of my neighbors did. I couldn't understand how they kept theirs so clean, and how they were so organized.

While I was never a hoarder or anything, I never had the clean house that I really wanted. BUT, watching shows like Hoarders or Clean Sweep really helped me pick up a lot of tips from the professionals that would come into help the people. I feel so much less stress in my life now, that things are always clean and neat.

In my mind I am well organized and neat as a pin. However, actuality and a busy life has the reality of the opposite these days. I'm a work in progress.

Oh, our humane society has a thrift store, that's how they feed the animals and other things that have to be done.

Flag this comment as inappropriate

I am neat, organized and can not stand clutter. Everything has it's own place in my house. Once a year I give to the humane society clothes that are no longer worn, utensils that I no longer use and a host of other stuff.

I think I'm generally a cluttered person although my desk at work is neat. But it's an organized mess for me :-)

I like being neat, but with 3 adults and 2 children in my house, things get cluttered way too often.

Flag this comment as inappropriate

I m mostly neat, but my hubby and my toddler love chaos lol

Flag this comment as inappropriate

I'm neat and despise clutter - although with six people living in this house, clutter can happen (in their rooms...but even the kids rooms are sorted and organized thoroughly from time to time) I used to be way worse in my youth; I've mellowed a bit.

Flag this comment as inappropriate

A cluttered room is I do really hate. That brings stress to me so I make it a point to put all things in order. I think the way you keep your things is a reflection of what kind of person are you.
