I went to visit family around the Austin area last week. While there I always collect insects, reptiles and amphibians to take pictures of. One of my favorite insects that I found and photographed this yearwas this Eastern Hercules Beetle. These beetles are one of the largest if not the largest species in North America. Eastern Hercules Beetles are not a threat to human and are quite gentle when held. The feet of these insects do have hooks so once they climb on you it is very hard to remove them. The easiest way is to let them crawl off onto some other plants. The entire life span of these unique insects is about 3 to 4 years. I also photographed some Click Beetles, a Pipevine Swallowtail Caterpillar, a Helgramite and several snakes. You can see some videos of a Eastern Hercules Beetle at the following www.jareddavidsonphotography.com/insects/Eastern-Hercules-Beetle.html
