Square Enix is releasing Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix and Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster for the Playstation 3 this year. If the company is smart, they should also remaster Final Fantasy XII.

One of the benefits of releasing Final Fantasy XII for the Playstation 3 is the ease of development. Square Enix won’t have to spend any extra cash on creating assets like they would have with a completely new video game because they are already there. Additionally, the original game has a widescreen viewing mode, saving further development time.

Releasing Final Fantasy XII for the Playstation 3 could also help reinvigorate the Final Fantasy brand. Many fans considered Final Fantasy XII as the last great video game in the franchise. With both Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIV being disappointments, Square Enix can get fans excited again with the remaster.

The most obvious benefit for Square Enix is money. The remaster of Final Fantasy XII would cost very little to make and sell millions of copies. The company could use all the sales they could get with their recent financial troubles.
