The famous French chain of cosmetics stores has announced that it will close all stores in The Netherlands by June 1st, 2013. Sephora stores, which could be found within the V&D department stores in major Dutch cities, carried a large selection of cosmetic brands as well as their own line of beauty products, which are not available elsewhere in The Netherlands.
On the Dutch Sephora website www.sephora.nl, they do not offer an explanation for the decision to leave the Dutch market other than a headline which reads: “Sephora focused on international growth”. They do thank their customers for their loyalty.
According to a former employee, Sephora has decided to leave the Dutch market based on the country’s disappointing economic climate. Some stores within V&D have already closed operations. The plan is to close a store every two weeks. Sephora in Utrecht will be the last store to close towards the end of May 2013.
Dutch fans can still order Sephora products via de French website www.sephora.fr
V&D will replace the Sephora stores with new ICI Paris stores.
