If you are anything like me, the thought of creepy crawly snakes around the garden in enough to send shivers up your spine. I’ve used mothballs to deter snakes for years. Although it is not foolproof, it does seem to keep them away. The active ingredients in mothballs is naphthalene, the same active ingredients in Snake-a-Way a commercial product sold to repel snakes. The jury seems to be out on whether mothballs really repel snakes, but others options require setting up fencing to funnel them away from the yard and trapping them under wet burlap – which of course, means someone has to check the burlap to remove them. Pardon me if I stick to hurling mothballs in areas where I don’t want snakes to visit, which in case you haven't figured it out is anywhere near me. (Photo: sphilp1225 via Flickr)
