Sales figures for the week ending February 15th indicate that the Wii U has almost completely closed the gap on the XBox One. The media of late have cried "death to Nintendo" claiming that sales figures of its latest home console were abysmal. Going by the same trend, the Microsoft Xbox One must also be doomed.
Sales of Hardware for the Wii U reached 40,500 last week while the Xbox One sold just over 48,000 units. The leading console right now, the Playstation 4 by Sony, sold an estimated 124,314 units. With the upcoming release of the PS4 in Japan, the gap between the PS4 and Xbox One is only set to increase when we take into account that sales of Microsoft Xbox in Japan are traditionally close to non existent i.e the older Xbox, the Xbox 360 sold only 310 units in Japan last week (yes 310), while the Wii U sold 8,700 in the same market.
The upcoming release of Titanfall, Destiny and a new Halo on the Xbox One and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8, Smash Brothers and Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U, should see fluctuations in these sales figures, but with the obvious media slant against Nintendo over the holiday season, this is lining up to be an interesting year in Game console sales. The mix of games coming to all 3 consoles such as Watch Dogs and Project Cars should also add an extra bit of spice.
