&Scottf13 - coming from the UK I have a slightly different view on socialized healthcare - but as I am in the US I do accept that many people do not want to be told what to do - I think that if they took the 'mandatory' part out but then marketed heavily to ensure people knew the benefits, you'd find a lot more people would support it. I agree that neither side wants to fix the issue - they want a WIN -and that really is a sad state of affairs for the US....

&SimeyC there are differences in the plan as what it was under Romney in Massachusetts and what it is now. There were attempts to make things work but neither side really wanted to fix the issues they both want to WIN... but win what who knows. Healthcare should be a private concern. At the very most it should be a state-by-state concern. The federal government should not have a single thing to do with what a private citizen does. It was designed to help the states maintain orderly interaction to to enact foreign dealings.

A state cannot BAN a federal mandate......

That'd be like the state of California banning taxes......it's just more BS by the religious right....heaven forbid they agree with the mandate they wrote 5 years ago....
(The ACA was originally written by the GOP, then compromised with the left and now that is known as Obamacare.)

My state of North Carolina refuses to adopt expanded medicare despite people whining for it. We can barely cover costs for everything now and they want to INSTANTLY add a half-million other people to it who someone survived before? If those people are added as things are then those who absolutely need it (such as the elderly and disabled) may end up having their benefits cut drastically to pay for younger people who simply don't have a job.

Imagine if every state could ban any federal law they didn't like? It would be chaos! Both sides need to sit down and work out how to improve Obamacare - it's law, it's not going away - there are some good things - so lets go through it page by page and make it work. Romney had a similar plan in his state that worked well - why isn't he working with the Democrats and letting them know what he learned from his plan? Why are both side so intent on not listening!!!

I live in South Carolina and fortunately have been unaffected by Obamacare as I have good coverage through the VA

Nope they can't ban it - this will be overturned - just more obstruction!
It's a shame that all this effort that both sides are putting in couldn't have been in negotiating the bill - and getting it 100% right in the first place!
