Joshua 6:1 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
Joshua 6:5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
Joshua 6:10 And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.
Joshua 6:20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
The walls of Jericho were big. No one was going in or coming out. God had given Joshua instructions about how he was going to cause the walls to come down. He told them to walk around the city once every day for six days. He said they were to make no noise with their mouth or speak a word. Then he said on the seventh day to walk around seven times and when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; they obeyed God and when they did what he commanded the walls came down.
Many of us have our own personal wall that is causing us problems. Maybe it’s a divorce, lost love ones, fiances, sickness, or just that someone causing you problems. Regardless of the problem or situation God is in control and we can trust him. It was seven days, and thirteen times around the walls of Jericho before they saw the victory. Some of us have been going through a trial for a long time, and we wonder when the victory is coming. Well let me say this. It came with obedience to God's word and also in the shout. Maybe God is waiting for the shout.
1 Samuel 4:5-6 And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp.
Here it said all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again. Notice the earth rang again. This lets me believe there was a period of time where there was no shouting. When the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp they shouted with a great shout. Don't allow the devil to take away your joy or shout.
Psalm 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
Hallelujah, let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice, let them ever shout for joy. Do yourself a favor and take time out of your busy schedule to shout. Take a shout vacation and just lift up your arms and start praising the Lord. Think about this for a moment. What is the best way to confuse the devil then to shout for joy? With his many temptations, trials, and confusions, just to come your way and to hear you shout. Imagine during your time of sorrows, heartaches, and trouble you just start shouting the victory. You may say but I still see the problem, mountain, and trouble. That is the problem you’re seeing it and not the answer.
I'm sure it was hard for Joshua and the people to walk for seven days around the city. However they had a promise that the walls were coming down. You also must not look with your natural eyes at your wall regardless of what it may be.
Hebrew 11:1 now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. God is going to bring the victory we must supply the shout amen.
Psalm 32:11 be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.
Isaiah 12:6 Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.
Zephaniah 3:14 Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.
We really need to learn to praise the lord in everything and to give thanks. Taking time out to shout the praises for what he has done for you, and what he is getting ready to do. There is something in the shout and praises to God that brings the victory. I have heard ministers say more than once. When the praises go up, the victory comes down. I can't say this enough that even though we are going through trials and our wall seems to be huge, we are going to look by faith, and we are going to shout our walls down. How important is the shout? Look at these last verses of the lesson.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Hallelujah, even when the Lord comes back for the saints he is coming with a shout SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT your walls are coming down.
