A&E is one of my favorite television networks, I can spend mindless hours in a row binge-watching Duck Dynasty and Storage Wars (don't judge me), and I am pretty devastated that Hoarders is no longer on. I am a little skeptical about A&E's new series The Governor's Wife though. I feel like they are selling out and showcasing something scandalous just to bring in more numbers, and not really taking into consideration their primary viewing audience's TV preferences.
The Governor's Wife is a reality series that follows the life of Trina Scott. I have actually never heard of the woman until this show was announced, but apparently down South she is considered scandalous. She married 86 year old Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards, who is apparently a big deal down South and is referred to as the "King Of Louisiana." Edwards also spent eight years in prison, which is how he met Trina, she began writing him letters and when he was released he married her. The A&E series follows Trina as she juggles her new marital status, her step-daughters that are in their 60's, her own teenage sons from a previous marriage, and tries to get pregnant again with Edwards' frozen sperm.
It sounds like a raunchy late night comedy, not something that should be featured on A&E. The Governor's Wife will premiere on Sunday, October 27th at 10:00 PM.
