There have been a load of bands that produced one or two smash hits then faded away. I listen to a huge variety of music in most genres and from all eras. I find that I still listen to a lot of one hit wonders that most people have forgotten about or moved on from.
These are just a few of the ones that I have on my huge playlist. I will post others in batches of five so the posts aren't too long.
* MacArthur Park by Richard Harris
This 80's song is kind of weird but it caught my attention. I guess I just want to find out who would leave a cake out in the rain. I wish I could find the recipe for this guy because he's REALLY upset about it. lol.
* I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred
This is SUCH a corny 90's song! He's too sexy for everything including his CAT! Awful song that I still listen to.
* Don't Worry Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin
This song is so upbeat that I want to strangle the guy. But it somehow sticks in my head and I keep it on my playlist and sing along with it even though I have to laugh because Bobby McFerrin probably wasn't too happy that this was his only big hit. Be happy, Bobby! You're probably still living off residuals from this song!
* My Sharona by The Knack
Although this is classified as a one hit wonder, The The Knack also sang Good Girls Don't (but I Do) which I also still listen to. I actually like Good Girls Don't better than My Sharona but both are catchy enough for me to still listen to them decades after they fizzled out.
*In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry
It's all the "OOF's" in the song that keep me listening. The lyrics are upbeat (and kind of lame) but what I listen for are those scary sounds like someone is hitting this guy with a baseball bat in the back of the head during the musical parts. I have no idea why they felt the need to add those oofs but they're hilarious.
There you have five of the many one hit wonders I am still listening to. There are so many more. I think I like corny songs the best when I am working along with the music in the background. They don't distract me enough to stop and actually listen to but they're familiar and much different from most of my playlist which is filled with songs from bands and singers who I am loyal to and like many songs by.
