I started working on my Halloween costume yesterday. I'm going to be Vanellope Von Scheewtz from the movie Wreck It Ralph. I know you're probably thinking that it's too early to be working on a Halloween costume since it's only the first week of September, but I don't have a lot of time to spare! I'm actually going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party next Friday at Walt Disney World and have to have it finished this week.
Yesterday I started working on my tights with some fabric paint to make the stripes on Vanellope's pants. Today, I started working on some of my hair accessories. Vanellope is from a game called "Sugar Rush" and has all kinds of candy in her hair! I bought some map pins and glued them to bobby pins with a hot glue gun. I had no way to remove the pins on them, so I put a thick layer of glue around the pin so I don't hurt myself with them. I also found a peppermint from some broken Christmas stuff I forgot to throw away last year and glued it to a bobby pin as well. Just need to find some more fake candy! I continued working on my tights today. After letting them dry overnight, I flipped them over and painted the other side. The first side turned out the best I think. I accidently spilled a little bit of paint on the tights so I had to cover it up a bit. I drew a line with some paint and a q-tip to cover up my spill. I think it turned out pretty good. The tights are drying now, so they should be finished by later tonight or tomorrow.
The only thing I really have left to worry about is my hair. I need to pick up some hair dye and dye my hair. I'm a blond, but Vanellope has black hair. I'm not going to dye my hair black, but I will dye it a dark brown. After all, it will be dark outside so I don't think anyone will really be able to tell the difference between black and a dark brown.
I'm really excited for how my costume is coming out considering it is low budget.
Here's what I've had to buy so far:
Fabric Paint $12
Bobby Pins $1
Hair Spray $2
Map Pins $2
